Deanna Marie Tinnin was a native of Burlington, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelors and Master of Science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2004 and 2007 from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NC A&T).
Deanna was the first person from her immediate family to attend college and was grateful to her parents, Valeria and Othrell Tinnin, and her Godfather for their support during her transition to college. NC A&T equipped her with leadership, confidence, and the technical skills to be successful in the professional industry .
She began her career with Shell Lubricants in 2007 where she worked in a number of value added roles via Shell’s leadership development program. Her roles during the time included Logistics Performance Coordinator and Supply Chain Excellence Analyst. Deanna quickly gained international exposure through a short term international assignment in Australia where she worked as a Business Development Analyst and a LEAN coach focused on blend plant optimization.
Deanna’s success wasn't limited to just her professional life. She was an instrumental advocate for the youth in her non profit work. Deanna regularly gave her time as a mentor to five students at NC A&T. She not only served as a big sister through the Big Brother Big Sister Program - Houston Chapter (BBBS), but also as a board member focused on the recruitment of more minority young professionals to BBBS.
Her efforts did not stop there. Her mission to give back to the community was exhibited through a number of other organizations she supported such as Junior League Houston, American Association of Blacks in Energy, Windsor Village Church- Youth Ministry, National Society of Black Engineers, Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, and the National Urban League.
Deanna enjoyed mountain biking, empowering youth and students, traveling and spending quality time with her family. She described herself as a self-motivated individual in which her faith, family and friends were the foundation to the wonderful woman she grew to be.
Her heartfelt dedication to the community was exceptional and her legacy will live on through the impact she made in so many lives.
